Professional teaching experience:

1994-1995 Wilbur McMann School, Little Compton, R.I.

Taught art for several months to kindergarten through eighth grade students. Created art lessons for each individual grade.

1996-2010  Art department of North Kingstown School Department, R.I.

Participated in over a dozen district wide meeting about improving art education in the schools. We analyzed student work, teaching methods conferencing with professionals and curriculum coordinators, and an assistant superintendent. Part of team that rewrote art curriculum for the district.

1996-1997 Davisville Middle School, a Blue Ribbon School

  • Part of the Unified Arts Team. A specialists that coordinated to assist school teams.
  • Interdisciplinary units with history teachers about the Holocaust, and the Civil war.

1997-2003 Wickford Middle School

Created a student centered curriculum that aligned itself with National Art Standards. Students initiated lesson ideas and voted on art material and subject matter. Standard based rubrics were then used for grading the artwork. Volunteered to teach art club every year.

  • 1999 Awarded:  North Kingstown Rotary Club, Teacher of the Month, “For Service Above Self.” 

2003-2010 North Kingstown High School 

Created lessons and units for nearly every two dimensional art class offered at the school. 

Extremely proficient in teaching: Foundations of Art, Drawing 1, Drawing 2, Painting, 2 Dimensional Design, Independent Study, Art History, and Advanced Placement Studio.

  • 2003 Immediately volunteered to assist with Advanced Placement classes and in 2010 officially taught Advanced Placement Studio Art.  Advised the portfolio construction and reproduction, registration of the student’s art for the exam.
  • Multiple students earned recognition for their art. Several gold keys and silver keys awarded in the National Scholastic Art Competition. A painting received honorable mention from Representative Jack Reed’s art exhibit.  
  • Dozens of students from classes and art club have successfully gone onto art majors and to art schools including but not limited to R.I.S.D., Savannah College of Art and Design, Mass Art, Maine College of Art, Boston Art Institute, Alfred University, San Francisco Art Institute, Parsons and Pratt Institute.
  • 2004-2010 Strengthened art department: streamlined lesson and material between teachers.  Lead teacher for creating an  unified final exam for all foundations of art classes. Reconstructed the Visual Arts Curriculum with department head.  Integrated electronic portfolio: wrote standard expectations for art history, two dimensional design.
  • Tailored lessons to those that have special needs, regularly consulting with special education teachers, and paraprofessionals. Taught students with a wide range of special needs ranging from physical challenges to severe mental disabilities.
  • Part of individual education meetings with special education facilitators, guidance, and parents. Advised, informed and signed several individual education plans. 
  • 2006-2009 Awarded three recognition pins from the principal for contributing to strength and prestige of the high school.
  • 2008 Guest Speaker for the North Kingstown Chapter of National Honor Society Invocation ceremony 
  • Cooperating teacher to eight practicum and student teachers at both Middle and Secondary school levels. Several of these students are teaching art now in schools.

2010 to Present: Creator and Manager of Amos Trout Studio, LLC. 

  • Private art teacher for secondary, and post secondary students. Assists with creating successful students portfolios, and informal college placement advice. Active artist that shows online and locally. 


Member of the Rhode Island College Art Education Advisory board since 2007
